Yuki Tanaka - Violin
Born in Japan, Yuki Tanaka began studying violin at the age of three and made her recital debut at eight. She attended the Toho School of Music in both its High School and College Divisions before moving to the United States in 1992 to continue her studies at the University of Southern California. A recipient of the prestigious Jascha Heifetz Scholarship, she earned her Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and an Advanced Studies Performance Certificate from USC. Her principal teachers included Angela Eto, Toshiya Eto, and Eudice Shapiro.
Ms. Tanaka is an active soloist, giving regular recitals and appearing in cities such as Los Angeles, New Orleans, Tokyo, Nagano, and Kawasaki. As a chamber musician, she performs with numerous ensembles, most notably as a founding member of the New Orleans–based group Musaica. In December 2005, while displaced by Hurricane Katrina, she organized the Hurricane Benefit Concert in Tokyo to raise funds for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to her performing career, Yuki serves on the faculties of the University of New Orleans and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Each summer, she returns to Japan to perform with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra.
